Variety Children's Lifeline Australia is the principal partner of the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation, and major donor to their Klibur Domin Tibar Home in East Timor. The home provides wonderful care for its residents and patients. The two outreach programmes that began in 2006, have achieved excellent results.
Firstly, the mobile TB Team has now tested more than 15,000 villagers for the disease and treated over 150 patients confirmed with TB, many of those tested and treated were children.
Secondly, the programme to support Children with Disabilities in their villages has also been most successful with more than 30 children now under our care. With the aim of increasing the support provided for these children, Ryder-Cheshire Foundation is planning to construct a new cottage at Klibur Domin to be used as a Respite Centre for the children and their family carers. This will enable them to provide intensive assessments and support such as physiotherapy at the Centre. It will also give the carers a break from the difficult task of caring for their children, many of whom are suffering from extreme disabilities.
The Klibur Domin Tibar home has continued to flourish through the magnificent efforts of the local staff and Australian volunteers. The home itself has been a peaceful haven where both children and adult patients have received wonderful care and support, so assisting their recovery from illnesses and injuries. VCLA has provided $15,000 in support again in 2007, ensuring that a minimum of ten children with disabilities per annum receive permanent shelter, education and care, and we look forward to continuing our partnership.
“Everyone in the Foundation and all at Klibur Domin joins me in thanking Variety Children’s Lifeline Australia for their magnificent support over the past three years.” Peter Newton, President, Ryder Cheshire Foundation EAST TIMOR
