We provide urgently needed equipment and support to sick, disadvantaged and special needs kids from birth up to 18 years of age. The impact of the help from Variety can never be underestimated and our work is so vital for making the world a better place for thousands of needy kids. Variety provides grants to individuals and organisations for a great number of items such as special wheelchairs, vocal output speech devices, prosthetic limbs, special play equipment and liberty swings. We give grants to hospitals, we provide Sunshine Coaches to special schools and organisations so that kids can get out and about in the sunshine and experience life and we also provide children with special experiences such as parties and adventure camps to give them opportunities that able-bodied kids may take for granted.
“My name is Quentin and I have a range of disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, epilepsy, vision impairment and asthma. I attend a special school five days a week. My mum and I attend the Variety Kids Christmas Party at Darling Harbour and we always have a lovely time. I love my new wheelchair. My sister has nicknamed it ‘Quentin’s hot wheels’ and my older brother loves pushing me in it.” Quentin, a young boy with Cerebral Palsy for whom Variety funded an electric wheelchair
“Specialised disability equipment is usually very expensive and without the support of organisations such as Variety, it would often be out of reach for many families. Thank you, Variety for your generosity!” Kylie, mum of three year old Noah, who has severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy due to a birth injury. He is unable to walk or talk and is visually impaired. Variety purchased Noah a standing frame.
“Our Liberty Swing is a resounding success. Students queue up for a ride at break times and teachers are taking whole class groups out for a swing whenever they have a chance. Classes from our other campus come across to join Narara classes which will contribute to the whole school culture by enhancing relationships between children and staff from the two campuses. Everyone is having fun. Children are communicating their wish to have a swing as well as their wish to not get off! The opening day, when children had their first ever swing was fantastic. It was wonderful to see the joy on the faces of children, parents and staff. We couldn't stop smiling. Thank you to everyone at Variety.” Gwendalyn, School Principal
