Mr Rod Collins APM
Rod joined the Variety National Board in 2004. He is Chief Barker of Tent 77 as well as being the National Road Events Chairman. Rod joined the Tent 77 Board in 1999 and was immediately given the stewardship of the VICBASH a position he still holds today. Over the years Rod has provided leadership to a committee of volunteers who have increased the event from approximately 60 vehicles to around its current position of 140 vehicles, with 400 entrants and support people involved. As a consequence of the expansion the net return to Tent 77 has progressively increased to now be around 1.5 million dollars annually.
In 2004 Rod was also elected National Bash Chairman. Through leadership of this committee Rod intends securing the long term viability of the Bash events throughout Australia by ensuring they continue to be both enjoyable and above all safe. With the events throughout Australia realising between 5 and 6 million dollars annually their on road integrity is essential.
Outside the Bash Rod is involved in most Tent 77 activities and actively promotes Variety both in his personal and professional life. He is also involved with his local community being President of their Sporting and Recreation Club where he encourages and promotes junior sporting teams.
Professionally Rod is a Superintendent with the Victoria Police having 33 years service including 7 years as head of their Homicide Squad. Recently Rod moved into the Business Management areas of the Force and in 2004 was awarded the Australian Police Medal (APM) for his service to policing, the citation also mentioned his commitment to Variety. |
