In 1994, Jack Cannons AM was appointed a Director of Variety, The Children's Charity Tent 56 NSW, and served as the Chief Barker (Chairman) of the Crew (Board) from 2003-2006. Since 1994 he has been past Chairman of McHappy Day (3 years) past Chairman of the Variety Sunshine Coach Committee (6 years) NSW Variety Bash Chairman (1 year) and has been a Variety Bash entrant every year since 1990. In 2005 he was appointed to the Board of Variety International as an Ambassador and holds three positions on the International Board, Chairman Variety International Operational Committee, Co-Chair Variety International Sunshine Coaches and Variety International Vice President. Variety Australia is honoured to announce at the 2009 AGM, Jack was elected National Chairman!

Jack is Managing Director of Swan Motors Service NSW and has been involved with numerous other organisations which include past committee member and Vice President of ANFA (15 years) past Director, Warringah Rugby Club (3 years), past member of the Collaroy Rugby Club committee (9years) and Vice President for 3 years. Jack launched and co-ordinated the Manly Warringah Farm Hand Appeal in 1994 and 1995, he has launched programmes to support Aboriginal communities in NW NSW  and in 2006 launched a new programme "Bush to Beach" which provides the opportunity for Aboriginal children to look at life outside their communities.

Jack has been passionately involved in community and charity work for over two decades. In the early 1980's, Jack launched and ran Neighbour Watch in Wheeler Heights, Sydney. During this time, he was also a member of various Police Consultative Committees in the Collaroy area. These included programmes to assist the elderly at the War Veterans’ Village at Collaroy and look at the needs of the youth (e.g. blue light discos, etc). Jack served as President of Hall Avenue Kindergarten in 1989 and 1990, a time during which the school was threatened with closure, and was a member of the Wheeler Heights Public School Parents and Citizens’ Committee from 1990-1994, serving as Parents and Citizens’ President for two of these years. Additionally, Jack was a school council member for two years. He is a past member of the Board of Governors of The Pittwater House Schools, Collaroy.
